Barbara Cajuste is a
charismatic performer who moves even the hardest skeptic when it comes to her
vocal ability. Her elegance and personality transfixes those who are privileged
enough to meet her face-to-face. Ms. Cajuste is beloved by Haitians for
combining traditional rhythms with social, and inspirational content. She is a
member of a new generation of Haitian musicians that have decided to take music
to another level. With her new CD set to be released in early 2008, Vre Lanmou,
Barbara draws on her desire to return to her Haitian roots in order to convey a
message of love and tolerance, which Haiti desperately needs now. “Sometimes I
feel like talking to the youth about life and love.” “This album is my way of
doing that. It’s my chance to give back to my younger brothers and sisters who
need guidance about life and what it has in store for them,” Barbara explains.”
Born in Boston, Barbara's first experience in music was singing gospel music at
the local church. By the time she was in high school, she was singing at local
churches, weddings, banquets and alike. At the age of seventeen Barbara was
ready to make her mark for God. It was then she began to take music seriously
and started networking by singing background vocals for local bands. By the age
of nineteen Barbara was a household name. In 2000 she began to realize her
vision of a new sound in the Haitian community and released her first Album, I
CAN IMAGE. Now, in 2007, Barbara has decided to expand her musical ability by
adding rhythmic Caribbean sounds to her music and has embarked on a mission to
market to the non-Christian community a message of love. Make no doubt that
Barbara hasn’t forgotten where she came from; she is merely expanding her
horizon! Barbara remains one of the few Haitian-female singers in Caribbean
music and Vre Lanmou is her second CD she produced. “I want to be at peace with
myself knowing that I have made a difference in someone’s life. It’s not about
being beautiful or about who I can impress, it’s about simply being real with
others and myself.”
Vre Lanmou is a
movement established by a well-known philanthropist musician, Barbara Cajuste,
to enlighten people on what true love is about. Barbara’s passion comes from
Maslow’s theory of basic humanistic needs where love is the ultimate hierarchy
that supersedes everything. With love, life itself would not exist! If there was
true love, then we would not be in a war, hunger would stop, and the war in
Darfur would end. This “movement” is a combination of music, cinematic
representation and workshops. Barbara is interested in making a better and
brighter community by contributing to charitable fundraising and remains as a
role model for young adults. Her attempts to show “Real Love” exemplifies who
she really is and further spreads the message of love, tolerance, and acceptance
in a corrupted, mentally enslaved society
"I hope that the love I put in this album, Vre Lanmou, will bless
(not impress) all who listen to it. This album exemplifies the Real Love that I
have for all living things and
because I am a teacher,
and a teacher has to lend himself to the message, my goal is to help people find
it and realize that they're not alone in their desire for love."
